Campaign for Gender Balance - Bringing Balance Through Support

Campaign for Gender Balance Auction

3.42.52pm BST (GMT +0100) Sat 6th Oct 2007

The Campaign for Gender Balance held another hugely successful fundraising auction at Conference this year, raising an impressive £3,670 for the Campaign. Jo Swinson MP welcomed everyone to the event, outlining the training, mentoring and support provided by the Campaign and its hopes for the upcoming year. Lembit Opik MP provided some energetic auctioneering, ensuring the evening was entertaining for both bidders and observers!

An exciting variety of lots were donated to the auction, with many items attracting fierce bidding wars! Lots auctioned during the event included a book of recipes written by North and Central Division Women Members in 1928, one years set-up and hosting of a Foci website, a week in Latvia, an antique crystal brandy goblet, and art-working for a constituency newsletter. Lembit himself couldn't resist bidding for a 1959 Liberal Election Guide - look out for quotes in upcoming speeches!

The Campaign for Gender Balance would like to thank everyone who attended the event, especially those who donated and bid for auction lots. The funds raised will contribute to supporting women through all stages of the approval and selection process. Events organised by the Campaign this year have included the hugely successful 'Future Women MPs' weekend which had 25 attendees, 6 of whom are now selected including 2 in winnable seats.
