Nicola Turner will be the Lib Dem candidate in Colne Valley

The Colne Valley Liberal Democrats announced today that Cllr Nicola Turner has been selected as the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for the Colne Valley at the next General Election.

"We are delighted to have elected such a dynamic and enthusiastic person as Nicola", stated chairman David Woodhead. "Over the past eighteen months she has demonstrated that rare ability not only to lead a successful campaign but also to motivate others to help her".

When asked about her campaigning platform Nicola stated "At last, in the Liberal Democrats, there is a national political party that has the courage to state publicly its aims with regard to taxation and the environment. Everybody already knows that the Lib Dems are determined to replace the hated and unfair council tax with a much fairer local income tax. BUT it really is vital that we must now go further and the introduction of our new green taxation policy is destined not only to shake up the complacent political landscape but also encourage a new generation to our banner.

"I am looking forward to the coming campaign and listening to the concerns and hopes of my constituents. I can assure them that I will work unstintingly on their behalf and for the whole of our constituency."

Nicola, who is Managing Director of her family's locally based manufacturing business, is married with four children. She is proud that her roots are planted firmly planted in the Colne Valley, having been brought up and educated in Lindley. She worships with her family at Holy Trinity Church. Now based in Scapegoat Hill, she is a school governor, treasurer of her local pony club and was elected to Kirklees Council for the Colne Valley ward in May 2006.
