Reflecting Britain - challenge issued to Leadership contenders

3.00.00pm UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 24th Jan 2006

A website outlining a challenge to the Liberal Democrat Leadership contenders has been launched today, with the support of the Chair and Vice Chairs of the GBTF: Campaign for Gender Balance, along with the support of the Chair of the Ethnic Minority Liberal Democrats.

The challenge, which can be viewed at http://reflectingbritain.org.uk, calls upon the contenders to outline their views about the current unrepresentative nature of the Parliamentary Party, and asks them to support the mechanisms currently in place for redressing the gender imbalance within the Liberal Democrats. In addition the contenders are asked whether or not they will be voting for the motion to create a properly resourced Ethnic Minority Election Task Force which will be debated at the Harrogate Conference in March.

All Liberal Democrats are asked to sign up to the site, and to spread the details of the website to as many members as possible.

All responses from the Leadership contenders will be published on the site.
